February Academic News: CRSM Environmental Club Awarded Top Honor

Cristo Rey St. Martin College Prep and its Environmental Club received the prestigious “Green Flag Award” from Eco-Schools, an internationally acclaimed program that provides a framework to help educators integrate sustainable principles throughout their schools and curriculum. The Green Flag is the top award that Eco-Schools grants, and Cristo Rey St. Martin has been working towards this honor since 2011 when our club received a bronze for their original energy audit and the beginning of the school-wide recycling program.

CRSM’s Environmental Club, now in its fourth year, works to inspire, educate and empower the student body to be stewards of God’s creation and make CRSM a leader among environmentally responsible schools. The Eco-Schools Program works to model environmentally sound practices, support the greening of a curriculum and enhance science and academic achievement. Honest stewardship is their primary focus.

The Foundation for Environmental Education, with the support of the European Commission, started the Eco-Schools program in 1994. In 2003 the United Nations Environment Program identified Eco-Schools as a model initiative for Education for Sustainable Development and it is now being implemented in more than 50 countries worldwide. In the US, the Eco-Schools program is run under the auspices of The National Wildlife Federation.

Way to go CRSM Environmental Club—stay green!
