On January 30th, Cristo Rey St. Martin and the The Northern Illinois Food Bank (NIFB) partnered to host a drive-thru food distribution event. The second major event in their continuing efforts to help families get through the financial challenges of the pandemic.
One-hundred students, staff, families and friends of the school volunteered to work alongside NIFB staffers, directing traffic and loading the groceries into cars.
The Saturday Drive-Thru ran from 9:00 am until noon and served over 1000 families with a wide variety of groceries.
Participants were also invited to take advantage of a mobile COVID testing facility dispatched for the day by the IL Dept. of Public Health.
Five more food distribution events are being planned for February, March. and April.
