CRSM Class of 2019 Salutatorian Address

On May 31, 2019, the CRSM community celebrated the Class of 2019.  The evening started with a Baccalaureate Mass at Most Blessed Trinity in Waukegan, followed immediately by the Graduation ceremony.  The Class of 2019 Salutatorian Ranee Sanford addressed her classmates at the onset of Graduation; the following is a re-print of her remarks that evening.

Good Evening everyone. Before I get started I would just like to give a special thanks to everyone here tonight. To the teachers, students, family members, and others who showed up to celebrate the beginning of a new path for all us graduates.

Over the past few weeks I have struggled to figure out exactly what to say. Because even ’til this moment I am still at loss for words. Today is graduation.

We have spent the last 4 years alongside each other, and now it is time to say our goodbyes. To think it has finally come to an end still does not feel real.

Many friendships and relationships were gained in the senior class of 2019 and unfortunately with those gains cames many losses.

Yet through it all we are all together today to celebrate our ticket away from Cristo Rey St Martin.

We’ve endured countless hours of class to be where we are today. Many sacrifices were made to continue the path through high school. Every graduate here tonight has a different story. We’ve all faced different obstacles, had different setbacks, and have been challenged in different ways.

Yet through all these obstacles, Cristo Rey St Martin was able to offer us something that would lead us to success – opportunity. Throughout all these 4 years this school was able to offer each and every one of us an opportunity. Whether it was through teachers, administrators, or even friends, opportunity was always given.

Every person graduating tonight will go off and become a better version of themselves. At such a young age we are about to be faced with the responsibility of building our lives and transitioning into adulthood. Which is why today is such a big day.

In less than 6 months we will all be off furthering our education, or finding something of similar value. We have waited for this day from the day we stepped through the old building. The thoughts of me graduating and going off to college at just 14 years old shows how important this day is.

Today we flip the page to our next chapter.

Our chapter we’ve dreamed for, for the longest time, the chapter where we use our newly learned skills to further our lives and potentially get into a profession that we have passion for.

Today is not just any other day. Today is the day that all of us graduate proving to anyone that doubted us, that we made it. Today is the day we celebrate and look back on all the memories and components that made us be here today. Every single graduate here tonight is going to go off and become a better version of themselves. Today is not an ending but just a start to a new beginning. It is truly a celebration and as Lil Uzi Vert said in his song Neon Guts, “Success is a drug man and we high”.
