Congratulations to Class of 2016 graduate Giselle Baca who was named “2016 Youth of the Year” by the Boys & Girls Club of Lake County. Headed to Wheeling Jesuit University where she received a full ride scholarship, Baca is the second CRSM student to receive this award in three years.
“We are extremely proud of the hard work and dedication that Giselle has put toward this competition,” noted a press release distributed by the Boys & Girls Club. The “Youth of the Year” is awarded to the Club member that has demonstrated exceptional service to the Club, community and family, as well as a commitment to academic success, good leadership and a pursuit of life goals.”
Baca says the Club was instrumental in her success at CRSM.
“If it wasn’t for the Club, I wouldn’t have been able to get through high school,” she says. “The Club has supported me ever since the first time I walked through their doors.”
Baca says she initially came to the Club because she felt a strong need in her life to volunteer and make a difference in the lives of others. She soon learned the Club had much more to offer, giving her a solid base of friends, encouraging role models, opportunities to learn about herself and most importantly, a place where she felt she belongs.
“The impact that the Club has had on me has made me the young lady that I am today. Being surrounded by people who want to see you succeed is wonderful because the contagious positivity can lead to your own great ideas and actions.”
