As the number of Cristo Rey students and alumni continues to grow, and as the impact the school has made in the Waukegan area over the last 12 years increases, the demand for young people seeking to attend continues to ramp up. This year we have 166 applications for the 110 openings for the freshman class of 2017. That’s up from 131 in December last year, according to Noemi Cuesta, Director of Admissions.
Like last year, the packed assembly hall of several hundred prospective students, parents and family members who attended the school’s open house in November also speaks volumes about the mounting interest of Waukegan area parents, teachers and the community in the Cristo Rey model and how it can help transform the future for local youth.
So far, teachers and staff have interviewed 71 prospective students and hope to have 80 applications ready for the next round of interviews on Feb. 23, 2017, she said.
“The fact that this year the application process is available online has helped to increase our numbers,” said Cuesta.
